Jazz Violinist Regina Carter at the Regattabar in Cambridge on November 25-26


Jazz violinist Regina Carter and her band appear at the Regattabar Jazz Club in Harvard Square, Cambridge on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26, 2011 for two shows each night at 7:30 and 10:00 p.m..

Tickets to the show are $30 and can be purchased online.

Carter is performing songs from her latest CD, Reverse Thread, a collection of African folk melodies.  Her band includes Yacouba Sissoko on kora, Will Holshouser on accordion, Jesse Murphy on bass and Otis Brown III on drums/percussion.

Jazz vocal group New York Voices is appearing at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.   Tickets are $19, $28 and $34, and can be purchased online
 
Formed in 1987, New York Voices is a Grammy Award-winning quartet that has emerged as one of the exemplary vocal jazz groups of our times.

Greek Jazz Pianist Lefteris Kordis Performs at Langham Boston Hotel on November 23


Greek-born jazz pianist and composer Lefteris Kordis is performing at the BOND Restaurant | Lounge at the Langham Boston Hotel on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Kordis is a Fullbright Scholar who graduated with honors from the New England Conservatory, where he now teaches piano, jazz ear training and music theory.  He has developed an undergraduate course entitle, The Post-Bebop Era: 1949-61.

The BOND Jazz Experiment highlights emerging artists and accomplished performers covering the jazz spectrum, including classic jazz from the American Songbook, rhythm and blues and funk.  BOND  is open seven days a week, offering gourmet sandwiches for lunch, afternoon tea, and global cuisine for dinner, plus an extensive wine list and distinctive cocktails. A special jazz menu is available on Wednesdays. Roomful of Blues wins Blues Artists of the Year prize at Boston Music Awards


Congratulations to Roomful of Blues, the veteran band who won the Blues Artist of the Year prize at the annual Boston Music Awards ceremony held at the Liberty Hotel on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Esperanza Spalding wins Jazz Artist of the Year at Boston Music Awards


Jazz bassist, singer and composer Esperanza Spalding won the Jazz Artist of the Year award at the annual Boston Music Awards ceremony held at the Liberty Hotel on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Spalding has won several important awards this year.  In October she won the DownBeat Readers Poll for Jazz Artist of the Year, and in February 2011 she won the Best New Artist Award at the 54th Grammy Awards.
