Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra Performing in Cambridge on February 18



The Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra is performing in concert at the YMCA Theatre on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 8:00 p.m.

The JCA will play the music of David Harris, Darrell Katz, Bill Lowe, Bob Pilkington, Warren Senders, Hiro Honshuku and Norm Zocher.

Tickets to the concert are $12 general admission and $8 for seniors and students.

New Black Eagle Jazz Band Performs at Rogers Center in N. Andover on February 17


The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, one of New England's foremost disciples of the New Orleans jazz tradition, is performing in concert at the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College in North Andover on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

The band formed in 1971 and since then has played in concert halls around the world.

Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased online, or by calling 978 837-5355.  Tickets are $25 the day of the concert.

Lance Houston Quartet Performs at Langham Hotel in Boston on Wednesday, February 15


Jazz flugelhorn player Lance Houston and his quartet perform at the BOND Lounge | Restaurant at the Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

The show is part of the BOND Jazz Experiment, which runs from  each Wednesday evening and highlights emerging artists and accomplished performers covering the jazz spectrum, including classic jazz from the American Songbook, rhythm and blues and funk.  For reservations call 617 956-8765.

Jazz Singer Gretchen Parlato at Regattabar Jazz Club in Harvard Square, February 14


Jazz singer and songwriter Gretchen Parlato is performing two shows for Valentine's Day at the Regattabar Jazz Club at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, Cambridge, on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Tickets to the show are $25 and can be purchased online or at the door. 

Born in Los Angeles, Parlato is a winner of the Thelonious Monk Institute International Singing Competition.  She has produced three acclaimed albums and has been guest artist on numerous others.

Berklee College Wins Nine Grammys at 54th Grammy Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to Berklee College of Music, whose alumni and faculty took home nine Grammy at the 54th Grammy Awards Ceremony last night in Los Angeles. Read the whole story here.

The winners were recognized for their work in various categories and fields, including rap, songwriting, jazz and blues.  With Sunday's awards, Berklee alumni have now won 214 Grammy awards

Jazz vocalist Nadia Washington is performing at a special Valentine's Day celebration at Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen in Boston's South End on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

The Dallas-born Washington - who cites Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan as influences - received the prestigious Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, and since then she has been performing in the New England region and up and down the East Cost.
