Blue Horizon Jazz Band Performs at Sherborn Inn on Tuesday, March 20


The Blue Horizon Jazz Band, led by clarinetist Stan McDonald, is performing its Riffs of Spring concert at the Sherborn Inn in Sherborn, Mass on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and can be paid at the door.

Playing in the spirit of the pioneer jazzmen of New Orleans, the Blue Horizon Jazz Band has a repertoire of over 400 tunes, from Scott Joplin's ragtime to the sophisticated sounds of Duke Ellington.  For a discography of the band, click here.

The Valley Jazz Divas Perform at Black Moon Music Lounge on Tuesday, March 20


The Valley Jazz Divas perform a mix of bebop, blues, ballads and swing at the Black Moon Music Lounge in Belchertown on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.  There is no cover charge.

The trio consists of singers Jill Connolly, Carol Abbe Smith, and Barbara Weene, longtime stars of the local jazz scene with gorgeous vocal harmonies and verve.

Danish Jazz Vibraphonist Winnie Dahlgren Performs at Arsenel in Watertown on March 19

Danish vibraphone master and composer Winnie Dahlgren is performing with her Sextet at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is part of the Center's Jazz@Arsenal series taking place through the spring.

Tickets are $18 and be purchased online or by calling 617 923-8487. 

Influenced by Latin and World Music genres, Dahlgren's latest CD is  strongly influenced by Afro-Cuban and Caribbean styles.  Dahlgren is a graduate of Berklee College of Music

Restaurant Week Boston Runs March 18-23 & 25-30


The Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, along with American Express, is presenting Restaurant Week Boston on March 18-23 and March 25-30, 2012 at participating restaurants throughout the area.

Over 200 restaurants are participating in this year's Restaurant Week, which offers great prices at some of the area's finest restaurants. A two-course lunch is $15.12 and $20.12 for a three course lunch.  A three-course dinner is $33.12 (not including beverage, tax and tip.)

This year proceeds from the event are being donated to Melmark New England, a private, not-for-profit, community-based organization dedicated to serving children with autism spectrum disorders.

Les Miserables, Celebrating 25 Years, Opens at Boston Opera House on March 13



Les Misérables, one of Broadway's most legendary productions, opens at the Boston Opera House for a three-week run on  Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Purchase tickets online.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the production, presented by Carmen MacKintosh, features all new staging and scenery inspired by the artwork of Victor Hugo. The New York Times calls this production of  Les Misérables “an unquestionably spectacular production from start to finish.”

Flamenco, Gypsy Music Featured at Middle Eastern Music Festival at Berklee Performance Center on Monday, March 12



The Middle Eastern Music Festival - featuring flamenco, Arabic, Mediterranean, and Balkan music - is taking place at Berklee Performance Center in Boston's Back Bay on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 8:15 p.m.

Tickets to the show are $15 and $10 and can be purchased online or at the door.

 Part of Berklee College of Music's Signature Series, the concert focuses on the music of Spanish flamenco composer and singer Enrique Morente, as well as the musical journey of Gypsies from India to the Mediterranean.
