Jazz Trumpeter Roy Hargrove Plays at Scullers Jazz Club on January 18-19

Jazz trumpet player Roy Hargrove and his Quintet perform four shows at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. each night.

Tickets to the show are $35 and can be purchased online.

Considered one of the premier jazz players of his generation, Hargrove has won two Grammy Awards for best jazz instrumental album and best Latin jazz performance.

Cryogenic Renaissance Orchestra Performs in Rockport on January 19

The Cryogenic Renaissance Orchestra, featuring trumpet master Greg Hopkins, is playing in concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets to the show are $18, $24 and $32 and can be purchased online or by calling 978 546-7391.

Hopkins, professor of jazz composition at Berklee College of Music, has been called one of Boston's "jazz treasures" by the Boston Globe.

Jazz Drummer Billy Cobham Performs at Regattabar on Thursday, January 17

Legendary jazz drummer Billy Cobham and his band perform at the Regattabar Jazz Club in Harvard Square on Thursday, January 17, 2013 for two shows at  10:00 p.m. (the 7:30 p.m show is sold out).

Tickets to the 10:00 p.m. show are $25 and can be purchased online.

Included in Cobhan's band: Dean Brown on guitar, Gary Husband on piano, Ric Fierabracci on bass and Jerry Goodman on violin.  Cobhan has had a major influence on jazz and jazz fusion since he burst onto the scene in the 1970s as a founding member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Jazz trombonist Emily Asher and her quintet perform at the Castle Street Cafe in Great Barrington on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  There is not cover charge.

The band, which specializes in New Orleans Dixieland jazz and Duke Ellington tunes, includes Asher on trombone and vocals, Mike Davis on trumpet and vocals, Solomon Davis on Piano and vocals, Matt Downing on bass and Jay Lepley on drums.
