The Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) gave a special Heroes Award to Wallys Cafe in Boston's South End earlier this summer, in recognition of the family run business and its commitment to jazz.

Felix Peikli Quartet Performs at Regattabar Courtyard Series on Monday, August 1


Norway's jazz clarinet master Felix Peikli and his quarter perform at the Regattabar Courtyard Series on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Courtyard at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, Cambridge.  The event is free and open to the public.

The concert is part of the Berklee Summer Concert Series.

UMass Amherst Celebrated 30 Years of Jazz in July this Summer



The Jazz in July program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. The program was started in 1981 by a group of educators and jazz artists, including Dr. Frederick Tilliss, Dr. Billy Taylor and others.

Roxbury International Film Festival in Boston, July 31, Features Great Films, Documentaries and Narrative Shorts



(July 31, 2011) Today is the final day of the 11th annual  Roxbury International Film Festival in Boston. 

Among the films  being shown across Boston today: A Mother's Love, directed by Tim Alexander: The Making of a Judge, directed by Linda Carter; and Land of Opportunity, directed by Luisa Dantas, a documentary about post-Katrina New Orleans.

Among the narrative shorts being screened: Letters to Bijou, directed by Elijah Starr;  and The Saga of Roxbury, directed by Brynmore Williams.

Also, there is a Sunday Inspirational Brunch featuring Lori Dow and Friends at Hibernian Hall in Dudley Square, Roxbury, this morning from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, followed by various youth day activities at the hall.
