North Shore Jazz Project is Presenting Jazz Singer Showcase on Saturday, May 21



The North Shore Jazz Project is presenting a Jazz Singers Showcase this Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., with a line up of great local singers.

Tickets to the event are $18 and can be reserved online.

Some of the jazz singers performing that night include John Archer, Stephen Smith, Bob D'Agostino, Dan Murphy, Steve Heck and Linda Amero.

The North Shore Jazz Project is a non-profit group dedicated to music education, performance and appreciation in the cities and towns north of Boston, Massachusetts.

Jazz Singer Rachel Price Performing at Sculler's Jazz Club in Boston on Thursday, May 19



Rachel Price, a young jazz singer with a voice like Ella Fitzgerald, is performing at Sculler's Jazz Club at the Doubletree Suites Hilton Hotel in Boston on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets to the show are $20 and can be purchased online or at the door.

The 23-year-old singer, who graduated from the New England Conservatory,  is performing with her trio, which includes Warren Wolf on piano and vibes, Erik Privert on bass and Dave Brophy on drums.  She has reinvigorated many classic jazz standards such as You Go to My Head, the Trolley Song and Skylark.

Boston's Beehive Jazz Club Celebrating President Obama's Visit with Hawaiian Pizza and Live Jazz



The Beehive Jazz Club in Boston's South End is celebrating President Barack Obama's visit to the city with an after-party this evening starting at 7:00 p.m., where it will serve "Hawaiian pizza a la Obama" along with live jazz until 2:00 a.m.

The club is located in the basement floor of the Boston Center for the Arts where President Obama held a fundraiser this afternoon at the Cyclorama and spoke to his supporters.   The Beehive opened four years ago and features live jazz nightly.

Afro-Latin Band Performing at Cafe Tatant in Boston on Thursday, May 19


African and world beat drumming star Cornel Coley and Sugarfoot perform this week at Cafe Tatant at the Roxbury Center for the Arts in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood on Thursday, May 19, 2011.

The group performs a lively selection of original songs and well-loved hits and everything from salsa, bossa nova and samba to jazz, soul and world beat.

It's a dinner club format, reminiscent of old style jazz clubs.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for drinks, followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., and the music begins at 8:00 p.m. Ethnica Gourmet Catering provides the food.

Tickets to the show are $12 each; meal and show combo is $28; and meal and show for two people is $54.  Tickets can be ordered online.

Jazz Singer Samantha Farrell Performing at BOND Lounge in Boston on Wednesday, May 18



Rising star Samantha Farrell has a return engagement at BOND Lounge at Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.

The singer/songwriter, originally from Boston and now living in Los Angeles, has been described by Ben Evans of the Huffington Post as possessing "a liquor-honey voice, deft guitar work and slightly melancholic tones that meld to form an arching and elegant aural tapestry."

Boston Pops Presents a Mardi Gras Celebration with Dukes of Dixieland, May 17-18




The Boston Pops, led by conductor Keith Lockhart, is bringing New Orleans to Boston this week with a special Mardi Gras festival featuring the Dukes of Dixieland, taking place on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Boston Symphony Hall.

Tickets to the concert are $70-$91 and can be purchased online.

The legendary Dukes of Dixieland have been ambassadors for jazz over the past four decades, traveling the world with their distinct sound of New Orleans jazz in its authentic form.
