Pianist/Composer Robert Glasper Discusses Creativity at Harvard on Wednesday, October 3


Robert Glasper, a Grammy-nominated pianist and composer whose work crosses over into jazz, hip hop and rhythm & blues, is at Harvard University to discuss creativity and to perform, on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.

The event takes place at Farkas Hall Studio, 10-12 Holyoke Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge.  Admission is free and open to the public.   It's part of the Learning from Performers Series presented by Office of the Arts at Harvard. The Hip Hop Archives is also a sponsor.

Patrick Douthit, aka 9th Wonder, a record producer, DJ, lecturer and rapper, is moderating the discussion.  Afterwards, Glasper will lead a clinic with Harvard music students.

Aardvark Jazz Orchestra Celebrates 40th Season at Scullers Jazz Club on October 3

The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, hailed as one of the most inventive and accomplished jazz ensembles, is opening its 40th season with a concert at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or at the venue.

Founded in 1973 by music director and trumpet player Mark Harvey, the orchestra specializes in original exploratory works composed by Harvey, together with wide-ranging repertory including Ellingtonia; American music by such composers as Ives, Gottschalk, and Billings; and performances with film, dance and poetry.

Bela Fleck and Marcus Roberts Trio at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on September 30


Banjo master Bela Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio perform live at the Berklee Performance Center on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is part of the Berklee BeanTown Festival activities taking place this weekend.

Tickets range from $29-$39 and can be purchased online or at the concert hall box office the night of the concert.

Fleck has won fourteen Grammy Awards and is considered to be the premier banjo player in the world.

Newton Jazz & Wine Festival Presents Jazz-in-the-Yard on September 30


The Newton Jazz & Wine Festival is wrapping up this year's festivities with a Jazz-in-the-Yard concert at the Jackson Homestead in Newton on Sunday, September 30, 2012 with a free concert from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Live performers include Cruzamente, an all-women Cape Verdean band, Fred Woodward Trio, Rusty Scott Trio, and Persian Blue.  Here are directions to the Jackson Homestead.

Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco at Boston's Agganis Arena on October 31-November 4


Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco, an acrobatic celebration of urban life, is coming to the Agganis Arena at Boston University for eight shows from October 31 through November 4, 2012.

After touring the world for two decades, the show is winding down and Boston is one of its final stops before it returns to Montreal in December to disband.  It's a great chance to see this extravaganza of acrobatic feats enhanced by a polyrhythmic live band of world class musicians.
