Newton Jazz & Wine Festival Re-Scheduled for Saturday October 13



The Newton Jazz & Wine Festival is wrapping up this year's festivities with a Jazz-in-the-Yard concert at the Jackson Homestead in Newton on Saturday, October 13, 2012 with a free concert from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  The concert, originally scheduled for September 30, was postponed due to weather.

Live performers include Cruzamente, an all-women Cape Verdean band, Fred Woodward Trio, Rusty Scott Trio, and Persian Blue.  Here are directions to the Jackson Homestead.

Quartango Performing in Rockport on Sunday, October 7

Quartango, a sophisticated ensemble that weaves jazz and classical music into tango, is on stage at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

Tickets are available online ranging from $25-$39.

Quartango is comprised of Stephane Aubin on piano, Jonathan Goldman on bandoneon, René Gosselin on double bass, Chantal Simard on percussion, and Antoine Bareil on violin.

Brazilian Singer Eliane Elias Performs at Scullers in Boston on Saturday, October 6


Jazz singer, pianist and composer Eliane Elias is performing at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. Tickets to each show are $30 and can be purchased online.  Dinner and the show is $72.  For dinner reservations call  617.562.4111.

Honk! Festival of activist street bands taking place in Cambridge and Somerville this weekend

'The 7th Honk!: Festival of Activist Street Bands, is running in Cambridge and Somerville Massachusetts through Monday, October 8, 2012.

Daniel Bennett Group Performs Jazz at Liberty Hotel in Boston on October 3


Noted jazz saxophonist Daniel Bennett and his band are performing at the Liberty Bar in Boston's Liberty Hotel on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, and every Wednesday night through the fall, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Admission is free.

A graduate of Boston's New England Conservatory,  Daniel Bennett is an accomplished jazz performer who pioneered a new brand of experimental folk jazz.

Located at 215 Charles Street in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, Liberty Hotel is described one of the city's most spectacular hotels and architectural gems.

Pianist/Composer Robert Glasper Discusses Creativity at Harvard on Wednesday, October 3


Robert Glasper, a Grammy-nominated pianist and composer whose work crosses over into jazz, hip hop and rhythm & blues, is at Harvard University to discuss creativity and to perform, on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.

The event takes place at Farkas Hall Studio, 10-12 Holyoke Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge.  Admission is free and open to the public.   It's part of the Learning from Performers Series presented by Office of the Arts at Harvard. The Hip Hop Archives is also a sponsor.

Patrick Douthit, aka 9th Wonder, a record producer, DJ, lecturer and rapper, is moderating the discussion.  Afterwards, Glasper will lead a clinic with Harvard music students.

Aardvark Jazz Orchestra Celebrates 40th Season at Scullers Jazz Club on October 3

The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, hailed as one of the most inventive and accomplished jazz ensembles, is opening its 40th season with a concert at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or at the venue.

Founded in 1973 by music director and trumpet player Mark Harvey, the orchestra specializes in original exploratory works composed by Harvey, together with wide-ranging repertory including Ellingtonia; American music by such composers as Ives, Gottschalk, and Billings; and performances with film, dance and poetry.
