Jazz singer Nadia Washington is performing at the BOND Restaurant | Lounge at the Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

The Dallas-born musician - who cites Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan as influences - has been performing since she was a child.  She received the prestigious Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, and since then she has been performing in the New England region and up and down the East Cost.

Tanglewood Jazz Festival Takes Place on Labor Day Weekend, September 2-4


The annual Tanglewood Jazz Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts is taking place this weekend, September 2-4, 2011, featuring an all-star line-up of great jazz musicians.

Among the performances:

Robin McKelle Quartet & Michael Kaeshammer Quintet

Angelique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves and Lizz Wright, 

Judy Carmichael's Jazz Inspired

Coast to Coast Septet featuring NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb featuring Mary Stallings and the Mingus Orchestra featuring NEA Jazz Master Gunther Schuller, 

and Latin Jazz Tribute to Cachao with the John Santos Sextet and the Federico Britos Sextet.

Saxophonist Grace Kelly is performing a free concert at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston's Seaport District on Thursday, August 25, 2001 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The concert is part of the ICA's HarborWalk Sounds series, sponsored by Berklee College of Music,  taking place Thursday nights throughout the summer. 

Kelly is a rising start in the jazz world and has performed around the world with notable jazz figures like Phil Woods, Wynton Marsalis and others.

Rising star Samantha Farrell has a return engagement at BOND Lounge at Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.

The singer/songwriter, originally from Boston and now living in Los Angeles, has been described by Ben Evans of the Huffington Post as possessing "a liquor-honey voice, deft guitar work and slightly melancholic tones that meld to form an arching and elegant aural tapestry."

A Jazz Happening at Jacob's Pillow Dance on Sunday, August 21


The fifth anniversary of A Jazz Happening, a dazzling one-night jazz celebration featuring students alongside Broadway stars, is taking place on Sunday, August 2011, at 8:00 p.m. in the Ted Shaw Theatre at Jacob's Pillow in Becket, MA.

Directed by veteran Broadway producer Chet Walker, A Jazz Happening features original choreography by leading artists.  Tickets are $75 for the performance, or $100 for performance, premium seating and reception with the dancers, and can be purchased online.

Earlier this year, Jacob's Pillow was awarded a National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony, in recognition of the institution's role as one of America's most cherished cultural groups.
