Jazz singer Nadia Washington is performing at the BOND Restaurant | Lounge at the Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

The Dallas-born musician - who cites Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan as influences - has been performing since she was a child.  She received the prestigious Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, and since then she has been performing in the New England region and up and down the East Cost.

Tanglewood Jazz Festival Takes Place on Labor Day Weekend, September 2-4


The annual Tanglewood Jazz Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts is taking place this weekend, September 2-4, 2011, featuring an all-star line-up of great jazz musicians.

A Jazz Happening at Jacob's Pillow Dance on Sunday, August 21


The fifth anniversary of A Jazz Happening, a dazzling one-night jazz celebration featuring students alongside Broadway stars, is taking place on Sunday, August 2011, at 8:00 p.m. in the Ted Shaw Theatre at Jacob's Pillow in Becket, MA.

Directed by veteran Broadway producer Chet Walker, A Jazz Happening features original choreography by leading artists.  Tickets are $75 for the performance, or $100 for performance, premium seating and reception with the dancers, and can be purchased online.

Earlier this year, Jacob's Pillow was awarded a National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony, in recognition of the institution's role as one of America's most cherished cultural groups.

Restaurant Week Boston - one of the most popular culinary occasions in New England - kicks off on August 14-19 and August 21-26 at dozens of great restaurants throughout greater Boston.

7th annual Provincetown Jazz Festival on Cape Cod runs August 12, 13, 15

The 7th annual Provincetown Jazz Festival on Cape Cod in Massachusetts runs from this Friday, August 12, 2011 in Provincetown to Monday, August 15 in Cotuit, Cape Cod.

Opening this year's festival is New Zealand jazz duo Adrienne and Josh Hindmarsh, followed by String of Pearls, a trio of women jazz vocalists whose song sheet ranges from Brazilian samba to the Andrew Sisters. Both groups perform at Provincetown Town Hall on Friday evening, August 12,  at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday,August 13,  jazz vocalist Dane Vannatter, a favorite of the P-Town fest,  performs at 8:00 p.m., followed by  Stage Door Canteen, a 14 piece big band

Then on Monday, August 15, the festival travels for the first time to the Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Falmouth Road in Cotuit, starting at 8:00 p.m. Performers include Bruce Abbott, Holli Ross, and Dane Vannatter.

First annual Martha Vineyard Jazz Festival runs August 6-13, featuring jazz performances, art exhibits and book signings

The 1st annual Martha's Vineyard Jazz Festival kicks off on Saturday, August 6, and runs through Saturday, August 13, 2011 on Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod.

Some of the featured performers include jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon, saxophonist Elan Trotman, Antonio Hart Quartet and Warren Wolf Quartet.

UMass Amherst Celebrated 30 Years of Jazz in July this Summer

Roxbury International Film Festival in Boston, July 31, Features Great Films, Documentaries and Narrative Shorts



(July 31, 2011) Today is the final day of the 11th annual  Roxbury International Film Festival in Boston. 

Among the films  being shown across Boston today: A Mother's Love, directed by Tim Alexander: The Making of a Judge, directed by Linda Carter; and Land of Opportunity, directed by Luisa Dantas, a documentary about post-Katrina New Orleans.

Among the narrative shorts being screened: Letters to Bijou, directed by Elijah Starr;  and The Saga of Roxbury, directed by Brynmore Williams.

Roxbury International Film Festival Runs in Boston July 28 Through July 31



The 13th annual Roxbury International Film Festival is taking place in Boston from Thursday, July 28 to Sunday, July 31, 2011 in various cultural venues around the city.

Produced  by The Color of Film Collaborative, RIFF was launched in 1999 to celebrate films written, produced and directed by filmmakers of color.

The opening night film, The Athlete, directed by Dave Frankel and Rasselas Lakew, is being shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, on Thursday, July 28 at 8:00 p.m..

Jazz singer Nadia Washington is performing at the BOND Restaurant | Lounge at the Boston Langham Hotel on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

The Dallas-born musician - who is influenced by Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan - has been performing since she was a child.  She received the prestigious Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, and since then she has been performing in the New England region and up and down the East Cost.

Japanese Pianist Yoko Miwa performing two free concerts at Boston's Jazz in July Series on Tuesday, July 26



Japanese jazz pianist Yoko Miwa is performing two free concerts in downtown Boston, as part of the Jazz in July concert series, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

At noon Yoko and her trio perform at Shopper's Park at Washington and Franklin Streets in downtown Boston, starting at noon.

Then in the afternoon Yoko gives a solo performance at Les Zygomates starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets to this event are free but reservations are suggested.

The Jazz in July series is sponsored each summer by the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, and features dozens of great jazz performances throughout the downtown Boston district.

The Jazz Tellers, a trio of young jazz stars from the Berklee College of Music, perform at the Upper Courtyard of the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, Cambridge, on Monday, July 25, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The concert is free, and is part of the  Berklee Courtyard Summer Series hosted with the Regattabar Jazz Club, which is located at the Charles Hotel.

The group includes Callum Mackenzie on saxophone, Lee Dynes on guitar and Nate Wong on drums.

Internationall Jazz Trio Playing at Seaward Inn in Rockport, Mass. on Sunday, July 24


An exciting trio of young jazz musicians from Norway, Brazil and the Unites States are performing at the Seaward Inn B&B in Rockport Massachusetts on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The performers include Felix Peikli, a 20 year old jazz clarinetist from Norway; Italo Cunha, an 18 year old Brazilian Jazz Guitarist; and Alek Razden a 17 year old Saxophonist from Rockport, MA.
